Natural Wonders on Vieques

Monte Pirata

At 301 meters, Mt. Pirata is the highest point on Vieques. Mt. Pirata stands as an omnipresent landmark on the west portion of Vieques. Named Pirata for the many pirates, including the famed Cofressi, who sheltered in uncolonized Vieques.

Mt. Pirata is an excellent place to see native plants, wildlife and many birds. A paved road allows a strenuous but enjoyable walk up Pirata. The summit provides impressive views of both sides of Vieques, the Puerto Rico mainland and Culebra.

Personal attempts to locate buried treasure at Mt. Pirata have been yet unsuccessful.
