Navy Ammunition Bunkers

During its 60 year occupation, the US Navy used the West end of Vieques for ammunition storage. Over 100 bunkers stored the artillery shells, bombs and bullets used in live-fire exercises on the East end of Vieques. These bunkers were emptied as part of the Navy's withdrawal from Vieques in 2003.

Now, over 100 bunkers remain as landmarks to this portion of Vieques' history.

These bunkers are accessible by the numerous paved and unpaved roads in west Vieques. Some of these facilities resemble nondescript warehouses; others are covered with earth or built into hillsides. Most are locked.
