Vieques Beach Guide
Garcia Beach/Playuela

Garcia Beach, known locally as Playuela, is adjacent to Red Beach. The two beaches, seperated by a sea cliff, have very different characteristics. Garcia offers fewer amenities (no gazebos, difficult drive, limited parking) but more privacy than Red Beach.
Garcia beach is a wide crescent flanked by rough limestone cliffs. The water is great for swimming, with a sandy bottom. Snorkelers will enjoy the reefs around a small cayo about 100m offshore.
Getting to Garcia Beach
Those willing to brave the treacherous, muddy dirt road will be rewarded with a peaceful beach away from the crowds. Enter the National Wildlife Refuge gate and travel about a mile, past Camp Garcia, and make the right towards Red Beach.
After a short distance, look for the sign for "Playuela" and turn right. Follow the road and avoid the holes until you arrive at Garcia Beach.
