One of the most popular beaches on Vieques, Red Beach combines tranquility and accessibility. Red Beach (known locally as Playa Caracas is part of the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge.
Red Beach is a wide crescent of soft sand, open and inviting, with a sea cliff to the right and rocks to the left. Coconut palms line the beach, along with small gazebos with charcoal grills.
Playa Caracas is perfect for swimming, with mild waves and a sandy bottom. Snorkelers looking for great reefs should explore the rocky area to the left and the small cayo just offshore. Look for established coral and sea fans or hunt for octopus and spiny lobster!
